Brian goes to the Creative Cocktail Hour

Brian attended this month’s “Creative Cocktail Hour” which takes place on the 3rd Thursday of every month at the Real Art Ways Gallery and Theater space on Arbor St in Hartford. Brian mainly kepts to himself, enjoying the magnificent gallery pieces of one Mr. Sam Gibbons, whose use of cartoon intestines, skeletons, and meat are inspired for mere mortal works, but mortals always do the best work don’t they? They even gave out these cool little kaleidoscopes to everyone who ordered a drink, except I couldn’t buy one, cause well, I had to drive home, duh (Brian stole one off someone, naughty Brian!). Anyways, there were some other crappy installations there, including this horrible plexiglass and acrylic thing hanging from the ceiling. At first I was reading the little blurb about her (WonJung Choi) works, which listed some pieces called “Butterfly and Dinosaur”, and I was like “sweeeeeeet, Dinosaurs” but that pieces wasn’t there, so it sucked balls, and hip-ball joints. At the end of this really creepy hallway where I “took” some chick who was all creaming for the indie art, there was this f***ing pelvis, a god-damned f***ing pelvis. WHY? What the f*** is so special about someone’s mother-f***ing hip-bones! Made me want to go out and take a baseball bat to the residents nursing home. Not a bad idea actually… heh. And there was some Indian (dot-dot Indian, not woo-woo Indian) artists ‘chronicle’ of his grandparents there too. I guess he’s taking this installation around the country. Seriously it’s a piece of shit. He didn’t even take most of the phots in the installation, its more some kind of sick homage to the aged. There was literally a gorgeous big-screen, HDTV out there with his grandfather’s head full frame, with images of his grandma getting in and out of bed behind him, a complete waste! You could have at least put something good, or funny on, like his grandparents falling down the stairs in some America’s Funnies Home videos spoof, now that’s comedy.

Oh yeah, here’s some pics I found of that awesome Sam Gibbon’s Guys work. Anyone think I could like get permission to, I dunno, bring him in for an interview?

So in other news, I’m moving, found a nice place right here in Hartford near Trinity College, and my freelance night job is going well. Seems like everyone wants something crazy and new for their website, letterhead, business card, porno mag, mailing label, or customized gun decal these days. Anywho…
